The IPL Points Table reflects how teams perform across a season based on wins, losses, and net run rate. It plays an important role in deciding playoff qualification and team consistency.
Over the years, franchises like the Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings have dominated standings. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are the latest IPL 2026 champions.
This article covers all 19 IPL seasons with points table insights, trends, and performance summaries.

After ending their 17-year title drought in 2025, RCB successfully defended the trophy in 2026 to claim back-to-back IPL titles. They also finished at the top of the league-stage standings with 18 points and carried that momentum into the playoffs.
Gujarat Titans, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Rajasthan Royals joined RCB in the playoffs, but Bengaluru once again proved to be the team to beat when it mattered most.

RCB’s maiden IPL title arrived in the most dramatic fashion — a 6-run win over PBKS in the final. It was the culmination of a transformed squad that had finally fixed its long-standing bowling weakness. CSK’s 10-loss campaign was one of the worst in the franchise’s history.

KKR dominated the league stage with a +1.428 NRR and went on to win the title. SRH and RR rounded out the top three while MI suffered a historic bottom-place finish with just 4 wins.
KKR’s third IPL title was their most dominant. Shreyas Iyer led a pace-heavy attack and explosive batting lineup that steamrolled the competition. SRH’s attacking batting identity under Daniel Vettori made them the season’s most entertaining side despite losing the final.

Gujarat Titans topped the table for the second consecutive year with 20 points. CSK and LSG completed the playoff spots, while DC and SRH both finished at the bottom with just 8 points each.
CSK won their fifth IPL title, defeating GT in the final, a rematch of the 2022 final. GT’s back-to-back league stage toppers finish confirmed Ashish Nehra had built one of the IPL’s most structured teams, but they fell short when it mattered most.

The IPL expanded to 10 teams and 74 matches for the first time. Gujarat Titans, in their debut season, topped the table and won the title, the most remarkable debut in IPL history.
The 10-team format’s debut season produced a stunning story; GT won the title in their very first IPL season. CSK and MI, both five-time champions, finished bottom. RR reached the final for the first time since winning in 2008 but fell to GT’s pace-led attack.

Delhi Capitals topped the table for the first time in franchise history with 20 points. CSK’s return to form after a poor 2020 saw them finish second and ultimately win the title.
CSK’s fourth title came with Stephen Fleming’s most balanced squad in years. SRH’s 3-win campaign was their worst-ever season. DC’s table-topping finish remained their high-water mark, they lost in the final to KKR before CSK ultimately lifted the trophy.

Played entirely in the UAE due to COVID-19, MI topped the table and won their fifth title. DC made the final for the first time since 2004. SRH finished third with a strong NRR.
MI’s back-to-back titles (2019–20) cemented their status as the IPL’s greatest dynasty. DC’s first final since 2004 felt like a turning point, but they were beaten by MI. The UAE conditions flattened the competition; only one point separated teams ranked 3 through 8.
8. IPL 2019 Points Table

MI topped the table and went on to win a record fourth title. CSK and DC also made the top three. RCB finished eighth and failed to qualify for the playoffs.
Three teams — MI, CSK, and DC- finished level on 18 points, making NRR the deciding factor. MI’s win in the final against CSK was a familiar result. DC’s 9-win campaign finally showed its potential after years of struggles.
9. IPL 2018 Points Table

SRH topped the table under Kane Williamson’s captaincy. CSK returned from a two-year suspension with a second-place finish and ultimately claimed their third title.
CSK’s comeback from suspension was extraordinary, they went straight to the final and won. SRH’s league stage dominance under Williamson did not translate into a title, as CSK beat them in the final. RR and DC returned after their own two-year ban with mixed results.

MI topped the table with 20 points and won the title for the third time, defeating RPS in the final. Rising Pune Supergiant had their best-ever finish in their short existence.
RCB’s 2017 campaign was among the worst in their history, just 7 points from 14 matches. MI’s 20-point league stage dominance was complete. KKR’s NRR of +0.641 despite finishing 4th showed how tightly contested the middle of the table was.

The season saw the Gujarat Lions enter the competition as a replacement franchise. SRH won their maiden title while GL topped the league stage on debut — a preview of what GT would replicate in 2022.
SRH’s maiden title came despite finishing third in the league stage. RCB’s +0.932 NRR was one of the best in IPL history, driven by Virat Kohli’s record-breaking 973-run season. PBKS’s 8-point return was one of their weakest campaigns.
12. IPL 2015 Points Table

CSK topped the table and won their fourth title — the last before their two-year suspension. MI reached the final but fell short. RCB’s third-place finish included a remarkable NRR of +1.037.
CSK’s back-to-back title defence (2010, 2011, 2015) marked one of the great periods of IPL dominance. PBKS’s NRR of -1.436 and just 6 points remaining is one of the worst single-season performances by any team. RCB’s +1.037 NRR showed their batting firepower despite not converting it to a title.
13. IPL 2014 Points Table

PBKS finished top of the table with a record 22 points, the joint-highest ever at the time, only to lose the final to KKR. It remains one of the great IPL near-misses.
DC’s 4-point return and 12 losses remain one of the worst campaigns in IPL history. PBKS’s 11 wins were extraordinary, yet they still lost the final to KKR, a result that defined the Punjab franchise’s heartbreak story. KKR’s title-winning run was their second in three seasons.

SRH made their debut season, finishing fourth. MI won the final against CSK in a clash of the two table toppers. DC’s 3-win campaign was their worst-ever record at the time. Pune Warriors India’s last season produced just 4 wins before the franchise was terminated.

KKR’s maiden title, won under Gautam Gambhir’s captaincy, came despite finishing second in the league stage. DC’s 22-point table-topper finish remains their best-ever league stage performance; they have never won the title despite this kind of regular-season excellence.

CSK won their maiden IPL title by defeating MI in the final, avenging their third-place finish in the league stage. MI’s +1.084 NRR was exceptional but did not prevent a final loss. PBKS’s 8 points was one of the weakest returns by a top-eight team in those early years.

DC won their first and only IPL title, beating RCB in the final. Deccan Chargers, under Adam Gilchrist, reached the playoffs from 4th. KKR’s 7-point return was one of the worst in those early years. CSK’s +0.951 NRR was extraordinary despite finishing second.

The inaugural IPL season. Rajasthan Royals topped the table with 22 points and won the first-ever title, establishing the template for every season that followed.
Shane Warne’s Rajasthan Royals were the ultimate underdogs, a small-budget team that outthought every opponent and won the title in style. RCB’s 8-point debut was a sign of the struggles that would define their next 17 seasons. DCH’s 4-point return from 14 matches remains a record for the lowest points by any team in a completed season.
Conclusion: MI and CSK are The Most Consistent Teams in IPL
The IPL points table tells the story of every season, showing which teams performed consistently throughout the league stage. Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings remain the most successful franchises with five titles each, while Kolkata Knight Riders have established themselves among the league’s top teams with three championships.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s back-to-back title wins in 2025 and 2026 prove how quickly fortunes can change in the IPL. Gujarat Titans also made history by winning the trophy in their debut season in 2022.
As the tournament continues to grow, the points table remains the best measure of consistency. However, as every IPL season has shown, the teams that handle pressure best in the playoffs are the ones that ultimately lift the trophy.
