The Celebrity Cricket League (CCL) brings film stars from different Indian industries to the cricket field. Established in 2011, this league combines entertainment with sport. Film actors from Bollywood, Tollywood, Kollywood, and other regional industries compete in this exciting tournament.
How CCL Works
CCL follows a simple two-phase format. The tournament starts with a league stage and ends with a knockout phase. Eight teams participate in the competition. Each team represents a different film industry in India.
League Stage Rules
The league stage uses a partial round-robin system. Each team plays four matches against selected opponents. The organizers divide eight teams into two groups of four teams each.
Points System
CCL awards points based on match results:
| Result | Points Awarded |
|---|---|
| Win | 2 Points |
| Tie / No Result | 1 Point |
| Loss | 0 Points |

Tiebreaker Rules
When two or more teams finish with equal points, CCL uses specific tiebreakers. First, the organizers check the net run rate (NRR). If teams remain tied, they compare head-to-head results from their direct match.
Knockout Stage
The top four teams from the league stage advance to the semifinals. The semifinal winners move to the final match. CCL does not conduct any third-place playoff. If the final match ends in a tie, a Super Over decides the champion.
Match Format
CCL has experimented with different formats over the years. The tournament started with the traditional T20 format. In 2023, organizers introduced a unique four-innings format with 10 overs per innings. For CCL 2026, the league has returned to the T20 format with 20 overs per side and a 6-over powerplay.
Season Structure
Each CCL season runs for four to six weeks. A typical season features 20 to 25 total matches. This includes league games, semifinals, and the final. The organizers schedule matches on weekends. They usually hold one match on Friday and two matches each on Saturday and Sunday. This schedule works well for celebrity players who have filming commitments during weekdays.
The 2025 season had a different setup. Kerala Strikers withdrew from the tournament. Only seven teams participated that year. Each team played four league-stage games. The total match count dropped to 17 matches.
